Behind the scenes with the Household Cavalry

A really excellent trip to Windsor in early October for the group, invited by the Household Cavalry to watch the changing of the guards at Windsor Castle, and then tour around their barracks and stables afterwards.

Coincidently the soldier who showed us around used to be a scout at 2nd Teddington in the 90s, and his father was group scout leader and an assistant district commissioner for Twickenham district!

Remembrance Sunday Parade

Well done for an amazing turn out from all sections the group for the Remembrance Sunday parade in Richmond today, and to all who helped spruce up our Remembrance painting on the old British Legion Building this week for another year.

After a year without a parade or service last year thanks to COVID, it was good to be able join again with other Scout Groups, youth services, cadets organisations, the police, Royal British Legion, Mayor and many from around Richmond – including some remaining old soldiers who used to meet in the Richmond British Legion – to remember for those who had given their lives at times of war for us, something we have always done as a group each year over many generations of leaders and young people.

Scout Camp

The Scouts were camping at Phasels Wood this weekend, which ends our run of five camps in four weekends. Exhausted, but very happy to get everyone in the group outside and camping again this term!

Open Evening and Awards

A fantastic turn-out from parents and members of all sections at the group open evening, AGM and awards night tonight. It was so good to finally see all of the group back together again after so long. Well done to all of the award winners, and everyone who came down to support the group.

Remembrance 2020

Amazing effort by Scouts and Young Leaders on the site of the derelict British Legion building beside our Scout hut.

Poppies were made from ends of plastic bottles, paint obtained by donation of premixed returns from local hardware shop.

Huge thanks to all involved especially our Quartermaster Sara and GSL Alex who gave so much time and effort to make this happen.

Every poppy makes a difference to the lives of our Armed Forces community.

Like so many things this year, the Poppy Appeal has had to adapt to the threat of Covid-19. We’re calling on the public to support us like never before, because every poppy counts.

As millions of people across the UK are now unable to leave their homes to find a poppy, and with collectors unable to carry out face to face collections, the British Legion unveiled a range of new ways for people to show their support remotely.

From donating for poppies through the post for your neighbours and local community, displaying a poppy in your window, donating online or undertaking a virtual Poppy run, there are many ways to support the Poppy Appeal from home in line with Covid-19 restrictions.

Scout Hiking

Our Scout Troop is back tonight, for a first in-person meeting for six months – and off in a socially distanced short nature hike. It’s been great to get everyone back in person this week!!

Outdoor, in-person meetings!

Scouts, Cubs and Beavers will all be meeting outdoors and in-person this week.

Despite the recent change to social gathering restrictions in England (aka the Rule of Six) the government has confirmed that as an essential service, youth sector activity can continue unchanged where groups and units follow Scouts restart guidance, which is in line with COVID secure National Youth Agency (NYA) guidance standards.

Please check your emails for all the information, including where to meet.

Make sure that you have completed the online permission form, without it we can’t allow your child to participate.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with your section leaders.
