Some good news for Spring

To go along with Spring starting to be sprung at the Scout Hut – the good news is that Scouts will be moving back to ‘Orange’ covid readiness level from the end of March, so all sections can look forward to meeting in-person again after the Easter holidays.

We’ll only be able to meet outdoors at the moment, so we’ll be back for sessions in Old Deer Park (or other locations if we let you know!)

We’re very much looking forward to seeing everyone again in real-life 3D rather than on Zoom very soon!

Meeting Face-to-Face again

Scouts have moved back to ‘Amber’ Covid Alert level, which means we can meet face-to-face again – so we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again over the next two weeks before our Christmas break!

Do keep an eye out for leaders emails to let you know what’s happening, especially as we’ll also be giving out all of our Beaver/Cub/Scout of the Year Awards and Baker Trophies which we’ve had to delay because of the lockdown.

Remembrance Art

There has been lots of activity around our hut, to make the area nearby more pleasant for everyone – and part of that has been making the derelict British Legion building next door more presentable, clearing graffiti and seven years build-up of overgrowth and dumped rubbish.

We have a long history with the British Legion in the group, and sadly there won’t be a remembrance Sunday parade this year due to the lockdown and pandemic, something we have always take part in – so our artwork this year is our part of this year’s remembrance weekend.

Donations to the British Legion’s Poppy appeal can be made here

Remembrance 2020

Amazing effort by Scouts and Young Leaders on the site of the derelict British Legion building beside our Scout hut.

Poppies were made from ends of plastic bottles, paint obtained by donation of premixed returns from local hardware shop.

Huge thanks to all involved especially our Quartermaster Sara and GSL Alex who gave so much time and effort to make this happen.

Every poppy makes a difference to the lives of our Armed Forces community.

Like so many things this year, the Poppy Appeal has had to adapt to the threat of Covid-19. We’re calling on the public to support us like never before, because every poppy counts.

As millions of people across the UK are now unable to leave their homes to find a poppy, and with collectors unable to carry out face to face collections, the British Legion unveiled a range of new ways for people to show their support remotely.

From donating for poppies through the post for your neighbours and local community, displaying a poppy in your window, donating online or undertaking a virtual Poppy run, there are many ways to support the Poppy Appeal from home in line with Covid-19 restrictions.

Update for Scouting over the new Lockdown Period

An update for parents for North Richmond’s plans for the coming weeks, now that sadly we’re heading into lockdown again from tomorrow.

As we anticipated, that does mean that we can no longer meet in person after today as the National Youth Agency and Scouting Alert Level will change to ‘Red’ at midnight tonight, which prohibits all face-to-face meeting of young people an volunteers in Scouting.

Unlike the last lockdown, our leaders did have had time to prepare this time – and I hope everyone that was comfortable joining in with Cubs last night, and who will be at Beavers or the earlier-in-the-week-than-usual Scouts tonight enjoy their last face-to-face meeting at the Old Deer Park.

From next week, all of the sections will move over to Zoom meetings and adapt the programme accordingly – your section leaders will be in touch with all of the details!

So, this time, we’re not going to miss even one week of Scouting.

Looking at the government and Scout Associations current advice, we all have our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to return to face-to-face meetings soon after December the 2nd at the end of the lockdown.

In the meantime, we hope everyone keeps safe and well, and we’ll see you over zoom – and back in person in before not to long.

Welcome back everyone!

We’ll be back at Beavers, Cubs and Scouts this week – parents please check your emails for all of the info!

The first week back will be a Zoom meeting for each section, but then we’re very happy to say after that we will be able to meet in person again!

Beavers starts this Wednesday at 6pm; Cubs on Tuesday as 6.30pm; Scouts on Friday at 7pm.

It will be great to see everyone soon, actually in person (but at a safe distance), after so long!

Family Camp 2020

This weekend is our 36th annual Family camp – it’s a little different this year as we’re all camping at home, but our families still all together enjoying the ‘friendly’ competition! After setting up their camps, you might spot them around Richmond this afternoon taking photos for our photo hunt challenge!

#CampAtHome – Virtual Camping at home activity

Cubs, Beavers and Scouts from North Richmond have taken up the challenge to do some virtual camping in April and earn some nights away badges.

You can camp in your garden or indoors

What needs to be done?

– Pack a bag
– Build a den at home or pitch a tent in the garden
– Sleep in the shelter of choice (Must be under parental supervision if outside)
– Draw or make a virtual ‘campfire’ to show us (or even build a real one and take a photo if able to do so in the garden with parental supervision)
– Take part in a “Scouty activity” – your choice!
– Help with cooking a meal for the family

Cubs have been cooking a proper camp breakfast too!

For every night, you’ll need to take some photos to show us what’s been done, and we can share them on our website and at some of the section nights after Easter those that have taken part can tell the rest of the section – and also share this on social media if you can:

Instagram: #CampAtHome and @NorthRichmondScoutGroup

You can also register online, here: https://www.campathome.org.uk/ with Northumberland Scouts (who came up with this idea) to get a virtual certificate for taking part. And there’s also a world record attempt at the end of April to try and get as many people camping on April 30th as possible. It would be great to see a lot of North Richmond Beavers, Cubs and Scouts take part!
