Parents are invited to get in touch with us if you are able to help in any of the following ways:
Help at Section nights
Parents are very welcome, and encouraged, to help at Section meetings – either on a regular or occasional basis. We always need to have two adults present at each night as minimum so we do have a parents rota in place in each section to help us run the nights.
Many section night activities are divided into bases or groups, so quite often we need more adults to help supervise.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to wear uniform and can be as involved as much or as little in the running of activities as you like. If you’d like to do this, speak to your Section Leader or the Group Scout Leader.
Help running a special activity
As parents, you may have special skills, hobbies or even an unusual occupation, which would be of interest at one of our Section nights. Let your child’s Leader know if you have something to offer as a one off activity at a section night.
Help with fund-raising
Like all Scout Groups, we are a Charity and there’s always things that need to be done to our hut, and more equipment needed to run activities.
We do have some larger projects in renewing parts of the scout hut, so we do need to run a number of fund-raising activities during the year, with our main one being a stall at the Richmond May Fair.
We need help to run these things, and are keen to get new ideas for ways to raise money. If you can help at May Fair or on any of our fundraising evenings please let your son or daughter’s Leader know.
Help at Camps and Nights Away
Most camps are held over a weekend, normally Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. These are always run by Leaders, but parents are very welcome to come along too and help out once they have become checked. There will always be plenty for you to do, and not just running activities, we also need help with all the cooking, cleaning and everything else!
Help maintaining our Hut
We are responsible for the upkeep of headquarters, so this needs to be looked after on an ongoing basis, as well as larger projects and in the near future we will need to look at new boundary fencing, windows and roofing. Any one with skills who can help us for jobs large and small are more than welcome, just speak to your Section leader.
The Group Executive Committee
The team behind the scenes that make our Group what it is – the committee is made up of leaders, helpers and parents who all have one common goal, ensuring your child gets the best out of their Scouting experience!
The Group Executive Committee is the business management body of the Scout Group. Every Scout Group is a separate educational charity and the Group Executive Committee must ensure that the funds, property and equipment of the Group and its separate Sections are properly managed. It also ensures that legal requirements, such as the appointment of trustees are dealt with properly.
The members of the Committee are nominated and agreed at our Annual General meeting, which normally takes place during November each year, and to which all parents and Scout members are invited.
Parent volunteers are an integral part of the Committee and we try to make sure that we have at least one parent representative from each Section of the Group.
The committee would normally meet at least once a term.
